Do you feel confident around parrots? This is Burt, an 8yr old, Padagonian Conure.  Being a parrot, Burt likes to squawk for attention and he can be loud and repetitive.  He is especially loud if you are not spending time with him.  If you are home, then Burt wants to be out of his cage and hanging out with you. These birds are very social and live for companionship.  They do not like to be alone. Burt enjoys being with new people however, if they are not confident around him, he is scared and doesn’t want them to hold him.  If someone comes up to visit him and confidently asks him to step up, he will. Burt lived with a dog and got along too. Once he knows you, he is cuddly in nature and will put his head down for you to rub the back of his neck with your finger.   He will sit calmly on your shoulder while you do computer work.  He also engages when we play music.  Burt will need a large cage, due to his high activity level. He loves to climb and explore and he needs lots of entertainment in his cage to keep him busy.  It is important to keep him active so he will be healthy and happy.  He needs a daily diet of fresh foods like seeds, veggies and berries along with proper pellet food.  He needs lots of interaction with people to keep him happy. He will remind you if he has been in his cage too long.  He just wants to be part of the family and will enjoy being right in the middle of the action.  He is quite comical and endearing.  When he doesn’t want to do something, he will lure you in with his cute face, lowering his head for attention and doing a little dance for you.  He knows how to distract us with his cuteness, especially when it is time to go back to his cage.
