Your Donation Saves Lives!
We count on your donations to continue our life-saving work. As a non-profit organization with no paid staff members, our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly on behalf of local animals. And our efforts are paying off. Our innovative programs have been credited with reducing the number of animals who are euthanized at our local animal control facility. Our dream is that one day, no adoptable animals will be killed in area shelters. We thank you for helping us realize this dream.Visit the donation page to see where your money goes.

About Laurel

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
Please do NOT call the shelter about Laurel--she is in a foster home, use the contact info above or below.
Until Petfinder includes an "All American Mixed Breed" section, we will have to make our best guess! Laurel looks like a delicately built Hound mix. She is a nice medium sized dog, and weighs about 40 pounds.

Although she looks like she may have some hound in her, may we say that she does not have the, ahem, less desirable hound behaviors? She is fairly quiet, and EXTREMELY smart and attentive. She will be easy to train with positive reinforcement. She is so willing to please, loves people, and shows an incredible ability to bond.

Her foster people say she is great with kids, other dogs, cats, and even horses! A larger male dog she can play with will be a big plus!!!!!!!

She has been getting lots of exercise, which leaves her in a great frame of mind. She is pretty active which is appropriate for her age, but knows how to relax. She's a big cuddle bug! Nothing makes her happier than a big play session, then snoozing on someone's lap. If you don't want a dog on your furniture, or sleeping with you, then Laurel's not the girl for you. She needs to be tucked in closely with people, as she is very affectionate.

She is housetrained with frequent potty breaks, and is learning to use a crate. We are up to 3 hours with no problems. My goodness--what more can you ask for?!

Poor Laurel was found out in the mountains of West Virginia. She was frantic for humans, and followed the people who found her for several miles. Attempts to find her owner were not successful. She has had pups in the recent past, which in rural areas (and others) it is enough to get a dog driven far out into the woods and dumped. So sad, as there is an operation to prevent this!

Laurel is now spayed, has has received all of her shots, been dewormed, and is free of fleas. Thankfully, she is also negative for heartworms.

This girl is really cute, right down to the white tip of her tail! Laurel will make a great pet for the lucky family who adopts her.
